According to a press release on westfieldtoday.com, Maestro David Wroe said, “It is our collective hope that this moving musical tribute will celebrate the fortitude, bravery and resilience of the American people.” With some proceeds going to the Westfield United Fund 9/11 Scholarship Fund, ticket prices range between $25 and $75. On Sunday, Westfield’s events will be held at the September 11, 2001 Memorial Park on East Broad Street and North Avenue. Silent reflection will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. to remember the hours of the September 11 attacks. The members of Westfield’s police department, fire department and rescue squad will stand at the memorial at this time.

At 1 p.m., a full minute of silence will be observed nationwide. Congress has called upon every town in the country to respect this National Moment of Remembrance.

In an August 5 press release from the town of Westfield, Senator Frank Lautenberg said, “During the Moment of Remembrance each person across the country is called upon to stop and remember those we lost in the September 11 attacks.” During that minute, town buildings, schools and places of worship across the country are asked to sound sirens and ring bells. According to Lautenberg, the goal of creating the synchronized noise is to encourage citizens to pause to remember those lost and to demonstrate the perseverance that the nation has shown since the tragedy.

An interfaith commemoration service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday in Memorial Park. Father Joseph Masiello of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Reverend David Mertz of First United Methodist Church and Rabbi Douglas Sagal of Temple Emanu-El will lead the ceremony. There will be a candlelight tribute as well as instrumental and vocal performances. The WHS Concert Choir, which performed during homeroom on Friday, will also be singing at Sunday’s Memorial Park ceremony. The service will be held rain or shine.
