“Have you heard of…?” Gina Minichino

by Krysta Huber
Local artist and WHS graduate Gina Minichino is being featured in an art exhibit at the Pearl Street Gallery in Elizabeth, NJ until March 30, according to ucnj.org. The exhibit, entitled “Eat This!” features giclée prints of Minichino’s still life paintings. According to giclée.net, this is a printing technique that preserves the hues and tones of the original paintings. Minichino’s photorealistic paintings are sure to satisfy the sweet tooth: her subjects include cupcakes, Peeps and donuts.
According to patch.com, after graduating from WHS in 1986, Minichino pursued her art education at The School of Visual Arts in New York City. She dedicated her studies to cartooning, and later started her own party caricature business. Minichino discovered her passion for painting when she enrolled in a painting class, according to ucnj.org. Since graduating from SVA Minichino’s work has been featured in New Jersey and New York.

Minichino has also displayed her talent on the sidewalks of downtown Westfield. In 2010, Minichino used brightly colored chalk to create floral patterns on the corner of E. Broad Street and Elm Street. Minichino continues to create caricatures for parties and events and also conducts private art lessons in her Westfield studio.
