Students share St. Patrick’s Day traditions

Jon Keenan ’21 : “I have a big family dinner with close to 30 people and we all eat Irish soda bread and corned beef and cabbage. We dye every single drink in the house green, from milk to ginger ale. When you walk in, there’s a huge bucket of pins with Irish sayings that we all wear with our green clothing.”

Morgan Boll ’20 : “I make shamrock shakes with my family every year on St. Patrick’s Day. It’s become a tradition that we love to do to celebrate the holiday. Even though we can get them at McDonald’s, it makes the holiday more special to make them ourselves.”

Mackenzie Smith ’18: “My family and I talk about our Irish heritage and where we came from and how we should celebrate being Irish. We also talk about how our ancestors were discriminated against. It’s funny because I look so Irish but it’s not a bad thing today.”

Brianna Hatch ’19: “Every year my little brother and I set a trap for a leprechaun before we go to bed, and then while he’s asleep I use green nail polish, markers, Lucky Charms and other St. Patrick’s Day-themed things to make it seem like the leprechaun came.”
