WHS students on the job

What’s it like to be a WHS student with a job? Let’s ask three of them:

Hannah Mayer ’18 – Casa de Pizza
“My favorite part of my job is my coworkers and the free food. When we aren’t very busy, it’s so fun to hang out with my coworkers and eat whatever we want. I wait and clean tables. The hours for the day are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at night are 4 p.m. to around 9 p.m. They are very flexible with hours: If you need to come in late or leave early, it is not a huge problem. I would recommend this job to a friend because once you get the hang of it, it’s a ton of fun!”

Kayla Tupper ’18 – Emack & Bolio’s
“My favorite part of the job is how relaxed it is, since we’re allowed to do our homework while we’re not helping customers or cleaning the shop. I clean the shop and prepare it for the day in the mornings and then close up and clean again at night. On average I work about 10 hours a week. It’s a very fun job that offers great experience. Our boss is incredibly friendly, and wants the best for his employees. Also, everyone who works at Emack & Bolio’s is great and we always find a way to have a good time together.”

Zach Hom 19 – YMCA
“The best thing about this job is probably the interactions with the kids. There’s always kids around, and it’s fun because they can be hilarious. They have so much energy that I don’t get to see in high school. I watch the pool and ensure everyone is being safe in the water. That entails taking pool readings and scanning the pool. The Y is pretty flexible with your pick of hours. It’s really a first-come, first-serve type of scheduling. I would recommend it if you’re comfortable in the water and you’re into working with kids and other adults.”
