With finals creeping around the corner, studying is a looming reality. As students, we are forced to remember every minute detail of extremely boring topics across the board, then take a test to show that we truly do understand the carbon cycle. Let’s be real—it’s hard to do. Here are some tips compiled from study sites to help you get through this strenuous process:
According to testtakingtips.com, “Find a comfortable and quiet place to study with good lighting and little distractions”. Honestly, this is not true. What you really have to do is play Taylor Swift as loudly as possible. The blasting tunes will make a great soundtrack to your verb conjugation.
Secondly testtakingtips.com says, “Have all of your study material in front of you: lecture notes, course textbooks, study guides and any other relevant material.” We all know this won’t work; instead, lie down in bed with your textbook under your pillow. If what I learned from “studying” science is right, osmosis will help me absorb everything I need to know.
Testtakingtips.com also says not to study later than you usually would go to sleep. “In the days leading up to a big exam, aim to get those seven to nine hours a night so sleep deprivation doesn’t undo all the hard work you’ve put in.” We all know this won’t happen so study for a half hour and then just watch Netflix until three in the morning.
According to testtakingtips.com, you should “Take short breaks frequently. Your memory retains the information that you study at the beginning and the end better than what you study in the middle.” To me, this is an excuse to eat chips and salsa in bed. Consider studying the short break and snacking as the actual mission.
Howtostudy.org’s stress management tips say, “Anticipate stressful events and plan ahead.” This is saying, plan out what you’re going to study out for each day on a calendar before actually beginning to study. Instead of this, use your calendar for something more useful like planning your next trip to Six Flags.
I guarantee A’s on your finals if you take these steps. And if they don’t work now at least you have time to practice them in summer school.
