Indian food spicing up Westfield
Are you looking to spice up your life a little? Head to the new Indian restaurant, Spice Bazaar, on Quimby Street in downtown Westfield.
This restaurant has a large menu filled with many traditional Indian dishes, such as chicken tikka masala and naan. We ordered the Schezwan chicken wings under the non-vegetarian appetizers. The plate came with five crispy chicken wings for only $8 that were filled with traditional Indian spices like turmeric and cumin—not your typical buffalo wings. The wings had a little kick to them and were a delicious appetizer that set up our expectations for the rest of the meal.
The next thing we ordered was the butter naan, which only cost $3 and included four pieces of the traditional Indian flatbread, which is similar to pita bread. The naan was very doughy and soft, and we dipped it into the sauce that the chicken tikka masala came in.
Speaking of that chicken tikka masala, this non-vegetarian entree came with white basmati rice and cost $16. The dish included cut-up pieces of chicken in a spicy tomato sauce. The sauce was very creamy, so we poured it over the rice to add some flavor.
We went to the restaurant at 7:30 on a Thursday night, which is a busy night in downtown Westfield. Every table was filled, so we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Due to our anticipation, the time went by quickly.
After we sat down, the waiter gave us plenty of time to look over the menu. The service was very good throughout our meal. Our waiter came out with our food quickly, despite the crowd inside. One flaw the restaurant had was the constant flickering of the lights. This was distracting and is something the restaurant should fix so that customers can enjoy their meal in comfort.
Overall, the food was delicious and an inviting addition to the Westfield community. We think that Spice Bazaar is a good break from pizza and frozen yogurt and people should check out this new Westfield restaurant. It’s about time Indian food made an appearance in this town.
