Remembering Dr. Nelson: One year later
On April 8, 2019, the community of Westfield mourned the unexpected passing of WHS Principal Dr. Derrick Nelson. Now, exactly one year has elapsed since WHS lost both a leader and a friend. Amidst all of the fear and concern regarding the current coronavirus pandemic, it is imperative that we take the time to properly reflect and honor Dr. Nelson. He was a man beloved by his community, and Dr. Nelson’s legacy will continue to be remembered for years to come.

This was a beautiful tribute to a man of integrity and honor in all that he stood for and encompassed. Derrick is beyond missed in the halls of Roosevelt and WHS! His legacy however will live on. Thank you Hi’s Eye for this heartfelt montage❤️

That was an incredible piece. I am constantly amazed by the work our WHS Hi’s Eye staff produces each week. The fact that you have honored this incredible man in this crazy time demonstrates the commitment you all have for your work! I loved this memory and thank you for remember Derrick! Keep on moving forward, because that is what he expected. This will be a piece that Sharonda and Morgan will keep I their hearts forever! You are the best Hi’s Eye! I miss you,

What a beautiful tribute to my colleague and friend Dr. Nelson. He was truly one of a kind and a man who personified loyalty and dedication. I am grateful to have called him a friend and know that his influence in my life continues to guide WHS.
