‘Dobo’ duo dominates
Brother and sister duo Jack and Faith Dobosiewicz have been dominating WHS soccer this season. Jack, a senior, is the leading scorer for the boys varsity team with 10 goals and 5 assists, while Faith, a sophomore, is currently the co-leading scorer for the girls varsity team with 9 goals and 3 assists. Clearly, this duo is living up to all of their hype.
The siblings both started playing soccer when they were around four, and were inspired by different parents to start playing. Faith gained her passion for soccer from her father. “He knew so much about the game and he just made me love it at such a young age. I always play for him,” she said.
Jack was inspired to play soccer by his mother, who was a four-year varsity soccer player in high school. “My mom made all of us play when we were young,” said Jack. These two have soccer running through their veins.
This power duo shares a similar season highlight, when they both scored the only goals of the game in victories against rival Scotch Plains-Fanwood (Sept. 9 for the girls, and Sept. 16 for the boys). “The atmosphere was awesome and that moment, I believe, really brought our team together,” Faith said of the early-season win. Both Westfield teams defeated Scotch Plains a second time this year, with Jack scoring twice in a 3-1 Oct. 12 win.
When asked about being leading scorers, they both responded humbly by saying these goals couldn’t have happened without their teammates. Jack said: “It feels pretty good to be one of the leading scorers, but I know that I couldn’t have scored all these goals without my teammates. They put me in good positions to score and I just try to do what I have to in order to get the ball to the back of the net.”
Jack feels as though he excels with skilled footwork and shooting. “I have gotten better at finishing chances as the season has gone on,” he said. Faith recognizes a similar strength in being able to put the ball into the back of the net.
Since it is both of their first years on varsity, Jack and Faith are always working to improve. “I always try to do my best and work hard at practice, so I can do well in the next game and connect with the team,” Faith said.
