Volleyball captains are diggin’ it
Along with their natural leadership skills, Borr and Swingle have made an impact on the court this season. So far, Borr has 84 kills on the season, and Swingle has 108 digs.
Head Coach Beverly Torok has watched the two captains develop into leaders over the past seasons. “They have gained a lot of experience under other leaders,” she said. “I think they have added their own style to the team.”
Borr and Swingle have big goals for this season. “Winning counties as a senior would be really cool especially because the last time I won was when I was a freshman, so coming full circle would be cool,” Borr said. Swingle wants to focus on the team aspect. “I want to leave the team as a family and have everybody genuinely excited to be together,” she said.
Being a captain isn’t easy and these two seniors have learned a lot from this experience so far. “I have definitely learned how to be more strict at times,” Swingle said. “Sometimes it’s difficult to tell people to do things because you don’t want them to get mad at you. This is something I have always been timid about, but this high school season has taught me how to do that in a respectful way.”
Swingle and Borr are determined to make their last year count and have set their expectations high. Swingle said, “We definitely have a great shot at winning counties and a pretty good chance of going far in states.”
