Addams Tavern is not the new Panera or Chipotle—you won’t find middle schoolers dipping into their allowances to pay for a quick bite to eat here. It’s an expensive meal, but it’s worth every penny. When customers walk in, they are surrounded by elegant decor with a high ceiling and booths with coat hooks on the side. The decor gives a very warm feel to the dining experience.
Diving into the cuisine, I went for lunch with my family recently. I soon learned that the “small plates” or appetizers at Addams Tavern are not to be forgotten. The wood-grilled avocado toast with Mexican street corn, feta, cilantro and lime ($14.95) is vibrantly refreshing and adds zest to typical winter foods that are eaten this time of the year. While I ate vegan, those who aren’t vegan should have no fear, as there are many options.
My brother chose the colossal lump crab cake, a restaurant favorite ($14.95). It’s a fresh crab cake that sits on a chorizo remoulade. For his main dish, he ordered the short rib grilled cheese which has short ribs, barn red cheddar, chimichurri dipping sauce, mustard and arugula all on a sourdough roll ($16.95). This sandwich redefines a typical dinner item and puts an elegant spin on it.
I ordered the arugula and roasted carrot salad, composed of an avocado/orange-lime vinaigrette, cumin-rye croutons and pumpkin seeds ($10.95). This twist on a classic house salad is what sets the Tavern apart from other eateries. Any restaurant can throw together a simple house salad, but Addams Tavern’s unique ingredients spice up the dish with diverse flavors.
The restaurant does a great job of accommodating to dietary needs by including allergen information on all items and letting patrons remove certain foods from dishes; there was no problem removing the cheese from my avocado toast.
The waiters here are well-trained and confidently recite what Addams Tavern has to offer. The restaurant’s dedication to giving patrons the best food and service is evident, from the ingredients listed on the wall to the warm decor to the delicious food. This is a restaurant you need to try.
