Artists you haven’t heard from in a while release new albums
With spring just around the corner, many of your favorite artists are preparing to release their newest albums and once again climb to the top of the music charts. Some artists such as SZA and Kendrick Lamar have hinted at new album releases in the near future, but nothing has been confirmed. The list below contains some albums that have already been released and some that are going to be released soon by popular artists.
WHO CARES? by Rex Orange County (March 11)
This is Rex Orange County’s fourth studio album and it follows up his 2019 hit album Pony which reached No. 1 on the Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums. WHO CARES? was released on March 11 and since then has climbed the Billboard 200 all the way to number five on the chart. The star tracks on the album include the single “OPEN A WINDOW” featuring Tyler, the Creator, and the second official single titled “AMAZING,” which quickly gained popularity after its debut accompanied by a full music video exactly one month before the album was released. Rex Orange County’s first claim to fame was being featured on Tyler, the Creator’s 2017 album Flower Boy, and although the two still collaborate, Rex continues to make a name for himself with WHO CARES?.
Dance Fever by Florence and the Machine (May 13)
Dance Fever will be released on May 13 and is Florence and the Machine’s fifth studio album following High As Hope, which was released in 2018. Three official singles off the album have been released already: “Heaven is Here,” “King,” and “My Love.” These very early releases are powerful, darker anthems and a bit different from her happy, upbeat songs, but still put a pop twist on alternative indie rock. The concept for the album revolves around something called choreomania, a renaissance-era phenomenon that caused large groups of people to dance until they physically could not stand any longer. The singles’ artwork displays this with its old-timey look.
Harry’s House by Harry Styles (May 20)
On March 16, Harry Styles announced his new album Harry’s House which will be released May 20. He did this by posting an Instagram picture of what looks like the album cover which received almost 7 million likes. This will be Styles’ third solo album following Harry Styles in 2017 and Fine Line in 2019. Fine Line included many different styles of music including rock, pop and alternative. Regarding Harry’s House, he has so far released a 40-second preview video showing him walking into a theater as a set of a house rises behind him. It will be exciting to see what Styles has in store for us May 20.
Gold Rush Kid by George Ezra (June 10)
George Ezra’s third album Gold Rush Kid is set to be released June 10 following 2014’s Wanted on Voyage and 2018’s Staying at Tamara’s. Ezra is a lesser-known artist, but has released numerous popular songs such as “Shotgun,” “Budapest” and “Paradise.” He released his first track in Gold Rush Kid called “Anyone For You” Jan. 28. “I would say that 50 percent of it is festival sing-along songs and 50 percent of it is reflective,” said Ezra regarding his album. Ezra’s inspiration for the album comes from his life experiences. He said, “You’ve seen places you never thought you’d see, you’ve met people you’d never thought you’d meet, and you’ve lived a life that you couldn’t have predicted so far. More than anything, you know it’s not going to last forever, it’s a gold rush.”
There is much to look forward to this spring season with so many new albums hitting the charts. Be sure to listen to Rex Orange County’s WHO CARES? and to look out for new music by Florence and the Machine, Styles and Ezra in the upcoming months.
