The music lab has been upgraded with funding by the Westfield Coalition of the Arts and Education Fund of Westfield.
Said Wojcik: “There was an existing lab before, which consisted of [3] computers that were at least 10 years old and keyboards that were of the same vintage. [The lab] needed a major overhaul and upgrade in order for it to be a viable…place for students to create [and to] apply their craft.”
Said senior Alex DiFabio, “The music lab is an excellent…tool that allows music students…to further improve their music education and skills.”
The lab is available to students in the music department. According to Wojcik, software includes Finale, which allows users to compose on the computers, and Práctica Música, a music tutorial program that allows students to “hone their skills in all facets of music theory and ear training.”
The programs Pro Tools and Smart Music “allow students to individually practice, compose and record music,” said DiFabio.
Said senior Sam Krause: “I have the ability to go into the lab and not only listen to but write, print and play music. It has allowed me and all of us to become better musicians.”
