Percy Harvin traded

by Sam Bromberg

Former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin was traded to the New York Jets on Oct. 16, after just six regular-season games with the Seahawks. Although Harvin is a valuable player, this trade is bound to hurt both teams.

The Seahawks gained only a fifth round pick in the deal, nothing compared to a player of Harvin’s ability. One of the alleged reasons for the trade was the problems Harvin caused in the Seattle locker room.

It was reported that there was a physical altercation in the locker room between Harvin and wide receiver Golden Tate during Super Bowl XLVII, according to cbssports.com.

While the Seahawks’ locker room may be calmer without Harvin, he was definitely a contributing factor to the team’s success. He had 2 rushes for 45 yards and ran back the second-half kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown in Seattle’s 43–8 win over Denver in the Super Bowl.

Without Harvin, the Seahawks are going to have to make up for the loss of a strong player.

On the other hand, according to Jets General Manager John Idzik, “Percy is a versatile, dynamic player who has been productive on offense and special teams.”

However, despite Harvin’s talents, the Jets should be cautious about trading for such a volatile player.

The media’s focus on the New York Jets has already caused tension in the locker room as the team further declines into futility. The situation will not be helped by the Harvin and his $10.5 million salary hit entering the scene.
