Just in time for Halloween, WHS Troupe #7582 of the Inter- national Thespian Society is holding a Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat canned food drive. Said senior Stephen Bubniak, pres- ident of the troupe: “ITS is the honor society for theater. Just like the National Honor Society, which rewards students for excellence in academics, ITS awards students for achievement in theater.”

According to Bubniak, the food will go to the Community Foodbank of New Jersey, where it will be distributed to those in need.
The food bank provides supplies to those who require tempo- rary assistance due to a sudden illness, unemployment or other catastrophic events, according to cfbnj.org.

Senior Kat Ko, treasurer of the troupe, said that the group wants to use its position as a theater honor society to do what they can to help.
Other troupes like #7582 organize collections and fundrais- ers nationwide. According to Bubniak, with the help of over 291 Thespian troupes, more than 385,000 pounds of food were collected last year.

Said Ko: “Around Halloween, everyone buys candy…. It makes you realize the abundance that we have here and how some other people may not have as much to eat.”

Bubniak said, “We’re always in our theater preparing for our next production. However, this allows us to actually help people who are in need.”
The troupe also hopes to hold community events this year such as a community outreach event to give back to the organi- zation Broadway Cares.
Said Ko: “There are so many clubs and honor societies that are all about raising money for charity. I think people are really big on that because we become more aware how much we have and how much we want to help other people.”

To participate, deliver canned goods in labeled paper bags to the auditorium by Oct. 31.
