The WHS Art Show has brought color to the school once again, as artists throughout the district had the opportunity to display their unique talents and artistic abilities. This year’s Art Show, which took place from May 13–15 in the WHS gymnasium featured a mix of art from a variety of classes in WHS, as well as different elementary and middle schools.
For students, the Art Show is a way for them to showcase their creativity and personality in a district-wide event. “The show gives people the platform to not only share their work, but also the opportunity to let those who aren’t familiar with art experience it,” said senior Jared Ellner.
Students and parents in the Westfield area have the chance to walk around and take in the myriad of eclectic pieces that students have worked on all year.
Said Art Teacher Mr. Roy Chambers: “I always love to see the look on my students faces when they see their work being displayed for the first time. The sense of pride they feel, along with a feeling of accomplishment, is very rewarding.”
While the show reaps benefits for the participating artists, it also provides the chance for other students to experience the art. Said Art Teacher Ms. Amanda Hatzikyriakou, “[The Art Show] can inspire [students] to improve their own artwork or for newcomers, motivate them to take an art class.”
Junior Caitie Collins said that the show is a product of a year-long effort from both the staff and the students that “brings an appreciation for art and allows the whole town to share the importance of art and the joy that art can bring.”
