YAG wins awards

​The Youth and Government Club at WHS attended their annual conference in Trenton on April 4 and 5 and took home many individual and group awards. YAG is run by the YMCA, and through the Westfield Y
According to English Teacher and YAG Adviser Mr. David Della Fera, WHS won Outstanding Delegation this year. Seniors Alexa Derman and JD Kelly and sophomores Isabella Gelfand and Frank Guerriero were selected to attend the Council on National Affairs this summer in Blue Ridge, North Carolina. Senior Jill Rosenfeld and sophomore Ellie Smith were chosen as alternates for this event.
Della Fera added that Guerriero, Gelfand, freshmen Jared Bansky and Maya Jonsson and juniors Andrew Kuznetsov and Ed Dellarso passed bills at the conference. Guerriero, sophomore Bryanna Reinhardt and juniors Andrew Kuznetsov, Andrew Zale, Koryn Kraemer and Ed Dellarso were elected to officer positions for next year.
Additionally, Guerriero, Kelly, Zale and junior Margaret Meyo were named Outstanding Delegates. Reinhardt, freshman Ben Kelly and junior Jared Geoghan won three of the eight possible Outstanding Legislation Awards.
“I was so incredibly honored and surprised to receive these awards and positions. I have met the most intelligent, eloquent, cultured and talented people at YAG, and these accolades, especially coming from them, fill me with…gratitude,” said Guerriero.
Said Kraemer, one of three officers this year, “[The conference] was very rewarding because I met a lot of great people and had a position of great influence over the experience of others.”
Mr. Della Fera said that the members of the club, “once again demonstrated maturity, diligence and talent” in their performance at the conference.
Guerriero said, “Their passion for making the world a better place is without equal…and it gives me so much hope to see young people so spirited about today’s state, national and world issues.”
