And the award goes to…

May 28, 2018

Mr. Brett Curtis

PTSO Teacher of the Year Award

“I was shocked; to be honest, I did not expect it,” Curtis said. He loved history as a kid, so teaching it was an obvious and valuable career path. “Transitioning that [passion] and being able to take my knowledge of history to the kids—when they get interested in something and it means something to them, that’s when it’s really rewarding.”

Mr. Anthony Meyers

Above and Beyond Award

Despite teaching math at WHS for 15 years, Meyers was still surprised to be nominated. “Having [the nomination] come from students I’ve taught—that made it very special,” Meyers said. His teaching philosophy is: “Be somebody who offers a caring, supportive environment, who offers extra help…and just be a person who is listening and kind.”

Ms. Marina Rogel

Robert and Linda Foose

Memorial Award

Although she has only worked at WHS for two years, Rogel has quickly become a beloved figure in Cafeteria B, always visiting lunch tables to chat with students. Her love for her job is abundantly clear, and the reason for it is simple and sweet. “I get to spend my time with the kids,” Rogel explained with a smile. “I just love the kids.”
