“My time here at Hi’s Eye was truly unforgettable. Writing for the school’s newspaper was outside of my comfort zone, but going to Room 111 was one of my favorite things to do every single day. I loved talking to old and new friends, being part of a team and seeing a newspaper come out every Friday knowing that everyone in that room helped make it happen. The one thing that Hi’s Eye and journalism have taught me is that, ‘if a dog bites a man, that is not news, but if a man bites a dog, that is news.’” -Hank Shapiro

In the heart of downtown Millburn lies a restaurant that garners national attention, so of course, I had to check it out. Millburn Delicatessen is a 20-minute drive from the doors of WHS and I promise the drive is worth every minute. The storefront is charming and parking next to the store is a breeze. As I walked in the door, I couldn’t help but smile. It was naturally bright, welcoming and reminded me of a classic NY/NJ deli.

While taking a number, I couldn’t help but notice the extravagant menu that stretched across the back wall of the store. There was something for everyone including cold subs, hot subs, chicken cutlets, and sloppy joes. I was a bit overwhelmed, but I knew I couldn’t go wrong with any of the options. I decided to order the The Godfadda, Buffalo Big Bird, and a turkey and ham sandwich.

The Godfadda is truly something special. When I told people that I would be reviewing Millburn Deli, everyone told me to try The Godfadda, and it was easy to understand why. Breaded chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, bacon, and Russian dressing make up this sandwich. The best way to describe this treat is tremendous. All the flavors danced in my mouth and I couldn’t wait for the next bite. This Godfadda is the signature sandwich of Millburn Deli and it lived up to the hype.

The Buffalo Big Bird is another quality sandwich which includes the hand breaded chicken cutlet, buffalo sauce, blue cheese dressing, and lettuce. My only knock on this sandwich is that it was overwhelmingly spicy, making it difficult to eat without a beverage. Otherwise, the Buffalo Big Bird is constructed very well and I would recommend getting it.

Besides their specialty sandwiches, creating your own is another option that will bring your taste buds joy. The quality of meat and toppings at Millburn Deli provides flavorsome subs no matter what you want on your sandwich. My turkey and ham on white bread was the perfect way to finish my meal.

The best part of Millburn Deli is without a doubt the bread. Whether you get a sub roll or regular bread, your sandwich will always be delicious. The perfect combination of fluffy and crunchy bread makes anything in between taste that much better.

My trip to Millburn Deli checked all the boxes and I would recommend anyone to check it out because there is something for everyone, but really, get The Goddfadda.
