iPhone X-tra

How can a phone cost almost $1,000? Should people be saving their hard-earned money in order to buy a new smartphone? Does having the new iPhone make people stand out or does it just make them seem like irresponsible spenders? The new iPhone X has everyone talking.
The iPhone X is being released in less than a month, on Nov. 3. This new iPhone’s starting price is $999, which exceeds the starting price of any past iPhone. The number one question surrounding the release of this new iPhone is whether or not it is worth the money.
Although the iPhone X has new and exciting features like an edge-to-edge screen, Face ID and emojis that move, it is not worth the steep price tag given that the iPhone 8, released on Sept. 22, boasts similar features. The iPhone X also has many downsides. Since there is no home button or home screen to this phone, it will now be harder for people to manage certain features like taking screenshots.
The iPhone X and the iPhone 8 both have wireless chargers, new cameras and increased durability. Also, the iPhone 8 has features that the iPhone X does not possess. The iPhone 8 comes in three colors (black, silver and gold), whereas the iPhone X only comes in two colors (black and silver).
The price tag of the iPhone X is not justified, and students should not be wasting their holiday gift on this phone. Yes, it is cool that emojis can move and that you can use your face in order to unlock your phone, but is this really necessary? If the purpose of a phone is to get in touch with others, all phones serve this purpose. So why get an extra-fancy one to do the same job?
There are so many other ways for people to be spending their money. Splurging for a $1,000 phone is just going too far.
