Recently, the Westfield community welcomed a new bakery to its wide array of restaurants and shops with the addition of Victoria’s Cakes. The French-themed bakery opened Sep. 12, on Westfield Avenue. Mayor Shelley Brindle attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and welcomed them to the town.

The bakery is owned by 21-year-old Victoria Marmet, who opened the bakery with her mother after moving from Miami to New Jersey. Prior to living in Miami, Marmet spent the first 18 years of her life in France, where she fell in love with the pâtisseries that served as an inspiration for Victoria’s Cakes.

“When I was a kid, with my mom in France, I always loved going to little coffee shops, getting hot chocolate and just having a nice time with her. So I wanted other [people] to have the same thing here. [I wanted customers] to buy a coffee and cupcake and enjoy their time in an…at-home atmosphere,” Marmet said.

Marmet put her interior design degree to use with the back of the bakery stretching into a cute lounge area for customers to eat their treats and of course, snap some good photos.

“I love interior design so I wanted to have a place where people could come and feel comfortable, sit down and take pictures. I love Instagram; I am always looking for nice new places to take cute pictures with my friends,” Marmet said. The bakery consists of a menu made up of sweet French treats. For the cupcakes, the choices consist of six core flavors such as nutella, cookies and creme and salted caramel. The seventh cupcake flavor changes with each month. This month’s flavor is tropical.

“We try to change some things, but we also have the basic menu with things like chocolate croissants, cinnamon buns, baguettes and some pound cakes,” Marmet said. She also said birthday cakes can be made upon special request. The Westfield community is excited to have a new addition to the downtown area and hopefully the bakery will get many customers into the shop to try their sweet treats and post some cute shots on Instagram.
